I am the owner of Susan Henry Photography an award winning portrait studio in League City Texas. Originally founded in 1996 on Galveston island, we love our “island roots” and continue to be known as the beach portrait specialist!
I am from Louisville, Kentucky where the Kentucky Derby is run! I knew I loved photography when on vacation in Florida I took a picture with an SX70 Polaroid instant camera of a palm tree against a brilliant blue sky. Much like the digital cameras we use today I was able to view the picture immediately after taking it and I promptly fell in love with photography right then and there.
I came to Houston in 1984 after graduating high school to attend the Art Institute of Houston. I graduated from the Art Institute in 1986. During my tenure at the Art institute, I was introduced to many different fields of photography. Which led me to try out some unique photography gigs! I have been a newspaper photographer, A medical photographer and a P.R. photographer. But of all the wonderful experiences I have had, owning my business has been the most exhilarating, challenging and rewarding of all.
Every day I tap into the emotional pulse of life. I might create a photograph of a proud grandmother with all her grandkids and then next photograph a beautiful giggly baby, and later in the day after school a high energy, creative, “fashionista” high school senior.
Every day we are privileged to be able to work in a field we are passionate about! It’s amazing to be able to capture the love of families, the spirit of high school seniors and the joy of babies.
I know that you want to see real personality of your loved ones, not fake smiles and stiff boring body posture. And because I have so much darn fun photographing people, they are able to relax and be themselves which makes for the best portraits!
I love my job and if you have ever been around someone that loves their job… you notice that their joy in what they are doing is infectious!
And that makes all of us happy.
Susan’s photographs have been in Time magazine, the cover of Success magazine, the cover of Galveston magazine, the cover of the Houston Women’s Business magazine and others.
